Cyber safety in the broadband world
It is unfortunate that it takes a national scandal for everyone to sit up and notice that the internet is not necessarily the safest place for kids and teenagers. Reported sales of some of the software that tracks kids interactions online have more than doubled. Parents have remember that software is no substitute for parental involvement. While the kids and teenagers online are typically not looking for trouble, there are alot of bad people out there just waiting to find the one or two that unknowingly fall into their trap. Some of the newest software will now track and send email alerts to parents if objectionable language or key words are seen in Instant messaging, or even linked in MySpace accounts. My kids do get online, and we always make it a point to be in the same room when they are on, and talking to their friends. We instruct them to only chat with their friends and let us know if someone else tries to email or IM them.Cyber
